Day 4: ugh… jetlagged
Family arrived yesterday evening. We stuffed our faces, then promptly passed out. Today, we’re avoiding every urge to go buy cheap, fake stuff. It’s a strong urge in China.
Started in a mall at Xin Tian Di – one of the entertainment districts. Big mistake. All American clothes, all twice as expensive as in.. well… America, lame. Looks to be an interesting club in there – G Plus. May be worth checking out later on.
Found a more “Asian” department store, somewhere. Loud, hectic, filled with grandmothers with mean shoulder checks. Crazy sales galore but STRESS!! Take a really really small area, fill it with way too many clothes and racks. Then add 7 small Chinese sales girls with vocal cords of raw steel. Future used car saleswomen I tell ya. 45 minutes later, I think I’m walking out of there with a good deal and what I think I want. Jack Jones blazer + sweater + shirt ~ $100 USD. We can do better.
Hit up a custom tailor in the afternoon. Imagine a warehouse divided into 8×10 stalls with fabric every-freakin’-where. An hour later, a new skinny lapel suit and shirt on order, ready for pick-up in 2 days. ~$140 USD. Quality? TBD.
Finally, after a hard days work, we hit up the spa. One hour foot reflexology and full body massage. $7 + $1 tip. Perfect.
