After a day doing nothing by the pool, we decided to venture out from the villa for a change. Crazy right? I mean, look at this place! Who in the right mind would want to leave this paradise? Us of course.
So we rented three bikes for $10 bucks a day… only to find out later that we had been ripped off. No worries though, comes equipped with… nothing. And I’m really not sure what sort of coverage you get with the “insurance” considering we were told to bribe the 5-0 if we were pulled over. Hmm… at least they threw in sexy fashion helmets.
The six of us zipped off to the South Eastern most corner of Bali to the town of Nusa Dua (noose-ah duah). Supposedly famous for its surfing and water sports. At least, that’s what the little icons by the map said.
Took us about 5 wrong turns, a torrential tropical down pour, and two “Absolut Vodka fill-ups” at the local entrepreneurs. Seriously. “Gas” is sold out of Absolut Vodka bottles just about everywhere. Oh God.
Check out those helmets…

… yup.. must be the wet season…

Finally made it to Nusa Dua and hired a shady boat to take us out to the reefs and snorkeled for an hour with the fishies and coral reefs. Do you see any snorkeling gear? Neither did we.

We spent the first half hour in the boat wondering where we were going to get the snorkeling gear from. Our ideas got steadily crazier, yet we continued to rationalize.
- “Maybe we’re meeting that other boat out there…”
- “Oh, I think those guys almost done over there. Maybe we’re taking their used gear (gross?).”
- “Oh look.. there’s a guy with a box swimming in the ocean… maybe he has our gear for rent?”
- “Maybe this is one of those snorkel-less expeditions I read about.”
- “Oh God… he’s going to leave us out here to die. Who’s got money?”
(Turns out they were under the seats.)
Just before sunset, we fumbled our way to Jimbaran to sample the fresh seafood at one of the beach-front restaurants before fighting yet another tropical storm on the way home.

This time… the map wasn’t so lucky. Apparently I lost the 2″x2″ section that covered our town somewhere along the way. The rest of the map was in about 14 different soggy pieces.
